Allergy-Friendly Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) Campus Guide

I am a 4th year Digital Marketing student at FIDM. In my experience, the school is okay with allergies. They give accommodations that they are legally required, but nothing more. I’ve had to fight for safe housing and classroom experiences. If you plan to attend the school, I highly suggest getting 504 accommodations because that is the only way your requests will be honored.

Granville

Granville is a casual, yet clean and aesthetic American restaurant with multiple locations in Los Angeles. I especially love the Pasadena location for the rooftop seating with views of the mountains. It’s perfect for a date, catch up with friends, or birthday celebration. The menus have gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian labels. The waitstaff is educated and proactive about food allergies. My favorite menu item is the Village Burger. I order it on a gluten-free bun. I love that the aioli is dairy-free because it’s usually difficult for me to find safe dips at restaurants. Further, my friends love the restaurant even though they don’t have food allergies, so it’s been a go-to lately.

Erewhon

If you’re in Los Angeles and haven’t been to Erewhon, what are you doing?! You’ve might have heard about this upscale specialty grocery store on social media. It’s truly all the rage in LA! The hot bar items are amazing. It’s definitely not your average grocery hot bar. Every dish has a sign with the ingredients which makes it super simple to see if it contains your allergens. There are also many snacks and sweet treats from various brands, including multiple allergy-friendly ones. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but so worth it.

Cafe Gratitude

Cafe Gratitude is a vibrant vegan restaurant with multiple locations in Los Angeles. The decor is clean and aesthetic. The food is fresh and delicious. I love that they have an online PDF menu with every ingredient listed in all of the dishes on the menu. Also, the staff is very helpful and accommodating to food allergies. I’m not vegan, but the dishes are so delicious that I don’t mind.

Sweetfin

I ordered Sweetfin for take out with my friends. It was great because we could all find something we could eat with our dietary preferences. I had the salmon avocado poke bowl. The staff was very accommodating with my allergies.

Great White

I can’t even count how many times I’ve visited Great White; it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles! My favorite dish is the market chop salad that is gluten-free. I also love the sparkling lemonade. A major plus is that it’s by Venice Beach and perfect if you wanna watch the sunset and then go to dinner.
