Emily’s Nut and Gluten-Free New York City Favorites

Hi! I’m Emily and I’m so excited to share my favorite New York City spots! For classic NYC food, I love Modern Bread & Bagel to get the best gluten-free bagel sandwiches. One of my must-go-to restaurants is Rosemary’s and I recommend ordering their gluten-free orecchiette pasta. You also have to visit Funny Face Bakery for the best nut-free chocolate chip cookies! For sightseeing and activities, my favorites include: The Met, Central Park, and running along the West Side Highway! S'MAC East Village

S’MAC East Village

“100% nut-free & soy-free + shellfish-free restaurant!! Check out their allergen menu online – it is NEXT LEVEL! All mac & cheeses can also be made vegan and/or gluten-free! The gluten-free pasta is top 8 allergen free & the vegan cheese is clearly labeled as nut-free (it’s made with coconut milk) Also all their breadcrumbs are naturally gluten-free!! I got the Apline mac & cheese which was AMAZING! Highly recommend if you’re in NYC – the owner is so nice too!”

Sushi Counter

Sushi Counter

“100% GF and nut-free sushi counter in NYC (West Village) And you can get 3 rolls for $12!? Such a fun find! They also have GF soy sauce! Highly recommend!”

Lovers of Today

“This is supposedly the bar that inspired Taylor Swift’s ‘dive bar on the East Side where you at’ It’s so cute! It’s a cocktail bar with fancy drinks. We did order a number of drinks to try and the bartender told us one has almonds in it, are there any allergies? Super appreciative she told us, as it was not labeled on the menu! I ended up getting my own drink and asked if she could make it first in a clean mixer. She was super helpful, but I will say there is definitely a chance of cross contamination here as the bar is busy and staff were using shared spoons for drinks. They did wash the mixer before so I felt comfortable but do want to call this out for any almond allergy folks!”

Momoya SoHo

Momoya SoHo

“There are a few Momoya locations but this one just opened in SoHo! Super fancy sushi restaurant with lots of fun things on the menu. They were extremely allergy aware and answered all my questions – I only saw 1 or 2 things with pine nuts on the menu. I ended up getting the tuna/salmon roll sushi lunch which was a few different simple rolls which were all incredible! It’s definitely pricey but such a fun atmosphere and felt very allergy safe!”

Boris & Horton

“This is a super cute dog friendly coffee shop! They do have almond milk and a few pastries with nuts. I mentioned I had a nut allergy and asked that my coffee be made in a cleaned area to avoid cross contact. They told me they would rewash all the coffee equipment so it was safe. I felt comfortable here and the coffee is so good! Super fun to hang out in the back with all the dogs!”

KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar

“100% nut-free handroll bar with multiple locations in NYC! This is an institution and a must visit in New York! I emailed ahead of time, and they don’t use peanuts or tree nuts! That being said, they do have a warning that they can’t guarantee cross contact for guests with severe allergies. I would not dine here with fish and/or shellfish allergies, as all the proteins are in the same area. I always sub the scallop roll given it’s not gluten-free but staff are very helpful in making sure my rolls are safe. I would definitely recommend for people with nut allergies! Note: the salmon roll contains sesame seeds (not noted on the menu)”

SHINN EAST

“This was my first ever omakse experience! We found this spot in an affordable NYC omakase guide. It’s a 13 piece sushi tasting made in front of you. We declared all my allergies on the reservation and the minute we sat down the chef asked us if anyone in our party had any food allergies. He told us they don’t use any peanuts or tree nuts in the kitchen! For gluten-free, I couldn’t eat any of the fish that were marinated in soy sauce but he adapted a few pieces with different fish to make them gluten-free. The sushi was AMAZING! There were a lot of fancy ingredients I hadn’t had before that I asked the chef a few questions, but nothing with nuts! Highly recommend visiting for $69 omakase!”

Rosemary's East

Rosemary’s East

“Such a great restaurant! We came here for Italian food the first night of moving to NYC! They were wonderful with my allergies. There are only a few nuts on the menu, and a majority of pasta dishes can be made gluten-free! I loved their GF pasta and felt super safe dining here. Fun drinks too!”

The Donut Pub

The Donut Pub

“100% nut-free donuts! They also have a few gluten-free & vegan donuts at both locations. You have to stop by in NYC!”

For All Things Good Williamsburg

For All Things Good Williamsburg

“A gluten-free & nut-free kitchen with the best brunch! I visited For All Things Good in Brooklyn this weekend and was so excited that they don’t use gluten or nuts anywhere on the menu! They have a number of breakfast & brunch items – I loved the breakfast tlayudita and tetela! Note: they do also have a coffee bar that offers almond milk as an option but it’s in a separate area than the kitchen – everything else on the menu (all the food) is gluten & nut-free. I just got brunch but want to go back for dinner too!”

Funny Face Bakery

Funny Face Bakery

“100% peanut + tree nut free cookie shop! They have decorated cookies as well as huge chunky cookies in super fun flavors! They also recently released a gluten-free & vegan cookie! If you’re gluten-free, note that the cookie is still made in a shared facility as wheat/gluten. I was fine with this – the cookie is to DIE FOR! So so impressed! This is a must stop if you’re in NYC with nut allergies!”

Sauced

“Adorable indoor / outdoor wine bar in Williamsburg! They have food too but I’ve only gotten wine here. The menu appeared pretty but allergy friendly!”

Avenida

” Came here for a work dinner and was told everything in the kitchen is nut-free! It was so good — I got a mix of their tacos and nachos! Super cute outdoor Mexican restaurant and bar!”

Edo Sushi

“100% nut-free sushi in NYC! I loved this restaurant! They were super helpful and assured me there are no nuts in the restaurant. They removed sesame seeds from one of my rolls (preference not allergy) and the sushi was delicious! A little more upscale/pricey, but a great option for nut allergies and gluten-free!”

Walter's

Walter’s

“Absolutely loved this restaurant! Few nuts and they were great with allergies! Staff are knowledgeable about what is GF. Fryer is not dedicated gluten-free. I got the chicken + mashed potatoes and they were amazing! Will definitely be back!”

Wild

Wild

“The cutest 100% gluten-free Italian spot! They have a few tree nuts on the menu but everything is added to dishes at the end so there isn’t a huge risk of cross contact. I felt super comfortable and the staff are helpful with allergies. You have to try the butternut squash ravioli!”

“This restaurant is AMAZING! Dedicated free from nuts + gluten! There’s also a location in Manhattan. We loved the spicy tuna dip and of course all the amazing hand rolls. Such a great spot!”

Nizza

Nizza

“Absolutely LOVED this restaurant! They book out super far in advance but we ended up walking in and there was a spot at the bar. They have a separate gluten-free menu with gluten-free options for pasta and pizza and they have homemade gluten-free focaccia bread for every table if you’re gluten-free! I loved the pasta and also got their half chicken and potato dish. It was amazing!”
