Nut, Dairy, Egg, Shellfish, and Wheat-Free Italy Top Picks

Hi! I’m Sami, and I recently traveled to Italy! I found many safe spots to eat while managing dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, wheat, shellfish, and sweet potato allergies and shared them on the Spokin app—all of my finds are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Ciro & Sons, where I had gnocchi for the first time! A fun thing to do if you are in Florence is to walk up the hill to watch the sunset over the city. Duomo Hotel & Apartments

Duomo Hotel & Apartments

“They stored my food and EpiPen before we could check in which was so helpful! They were so nice and the location to this hotel was so perfect, as it’s right next to the duomo!”

Sushi&Sound - Ristorante Sushi

Sushi & Sound – Ristorante Sushi

Location: Milan, Italy

“Sushi & Sound was so amazing, it was some of the best salmon I have ever tasted! They really put so much care into my meal and took my food allergies very seriously. I got the sashimi and an adapted roll. The whole restaurant is gluten-free, which is why I went in the first place, since I knew they would have gluten-free soy sauce. It was so amazing, I want to go back! I also had the edamame.”

Trattoria Torre di Pisa

Trattoria Torre di Pisa

Location: Milan, Italy

“This place was so awesome, it definitely was more of the authentic Italian mean vibes, but of course in a nice way. When I asked about my allergies and if I could have the steak, all he said was, can you have oil? Can you have salt? And the meat? And I said yes to all, and he said I will be fine. Everything was good! Sometimes I wonder why all restaurants can’t be like that! Everything was so simple. He then went on to correct my pronunciation of Grazi. It was so fun!”

Domò Sushi Milano

Domò Sushi Milano

Location: Milan, Italy

“I would say this place was pretty good, but it wasn’t my favorite! They gave me a separate tablet to order my sushi on, and I could input my allergies. I could see the ingredients on each item! It was good! The seaweed salad was my favorite!”

Starbucks Reserve Roastery

Starbucks Reserve Roastery

Location: Milan, Italy

“Although the roastery is very busy all of the time, I think they did a great job! I ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk. I saw in the window that they use Oatly, so I felt safe. I asked if they could make it in the cup, and he said yes. Yum!”

La Buchetta Food & Wine Restaurant

La Buchetta Food & Wine Restaurant

Location: Florence, Italy

“We went here twice because of how good they were! The first time I had the Florentine steak and it was delicious! The candle was from the fat of the steak. The chunky salt was so good on it. And secondly, I had pasta! It was my first spaghetti at a restaurant, and they showed it to me. It was the Schar brand with tomatoes and olive oil. Everything here was so good! They had Schar bread for dipping! I could also have a lot of the sides, the toasted potatoes were my favorite.”

Ciro and Sons - Restaurant Pizzeria Firenze

Ciro and Sons – Restaurant Pizzeria Firenze

Location: Florence, Italy

“I had gnocchi here for the first time and it was so delicious!! The manager came out and told me everything I could and couldn’t eat. He said the gnocchi was potato-based, and it was so delicious. They used vegan cheese, and I was actually so full eating this, it was so good! I also had a lemon Italian ice for dessert. This place is 100 percent gluten-free, and I felt so safe! I also had gluten-free rolls, they were the best rolls I have ever had!”
