“The most expensive steak I’ve ever had but the best fancy date night! The servers are incredibly knowledgeable about what main course and side options are gluten free. I had a steak with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. They will even talk to the chef for you. Free dessert on your birthday! Not a ton of dessert options are gluten free but they can always do ice cream.”

“We love Roka Akor. This is one of our favorite places to go. They have limited nuts on the menu and no peanuts (I don’t believe). They also have a lot of non-dairy and non-egg options. When we are concerned about something here they always double check for us and leave nothing to chance. The food is amazing too!”

Houston’s
Location: Scottsdale, Arizona
“We recently got take out from here, and were amazed how careful they were and well they responded to our allergen requests. When we asked about certain menu items they gave us options on how they could prepare it differently for us (i.e. without butter and what oil choices they had). They made sure to use separate utensils to prepare our food, and the food here is amazing as well! Note: they don’t have a dedicated prep area here so cross-contamination while minimized with utensils, new gloves, etc., could still be an issue for some.”

The Capital Grille
Location: Scottsdale, Arizona
“We recently got take out from here, and were amazed how careful they were and well they responded to our allergen requests. When we asked about mustard, they went and checked what items were cooked on the same surfaces, etc to let us know if cross contamination was possible. They told us what items had dairy (and butter without being asked). They made sure to use separate utensils to prepare our food and packaged everything in a separate area! We were very impressed, and had no problems with our delicious meal!”

CALIFORNIA

Baci Bistro and Bar
Location: Pleasanton, California
“This is a fancy Italian restaurant in Downtown Pleasanton! They have gluten-free pasta and are pretty knowledgable about gluten-free options on the menu. They have some tree nuts on the menu (mainly almonds and walnuts) in several of the entrees and salads. I told our waiter my allergies, and he wrote them down to inform the kitchen. I wouldn’t say they were extremely allergy aware, but I ate there safely and would definitely go back!”

Duke’s Huntington Beach
Location: Huntington Beach, California
“Duke’s has lots of nuts on the menu (they are known for their macadamia nuts), but I have eaten safely here multiple times and at different locations! The chef came out and spoke to me and explained he would make all components of the dish himself in a separate area of the kitchen. I got steak, mashed potatoes and cooked veggies, and the chef came back to check in and explain he would make the mashed potatoes from scratch specifically for me to avoid any cross contamination that may have occurred from the already cooked pot in the kitchen!”

Caffe Allegro
Location: La Verne, California
“Ate here with my boyfriend for our 1 year anniversary dinner! I called ahead and when we checked in for our reservation they already had my peanut and gluten allergies listed. We were seated, and when our waitress arrived at our table for drinks, I mentioned my allergies, and she said “Thank you so much for letting me know. The hostess already made me aware that I was serving someone with a severe peanut allergy!” Thought this was so cool! I ordered the spaghetti bolognese with gluten free pasta, and she showed me on the order how she wrote “Severe peanut allergy!!!!! Use separate pans – no cross contact!!!!” in bold letters with lots of exclamation points. Our food was so delicious and safe!”

Pacific Catch
Location: Dublin, California
“Had such a great experience here! I read online that their menu is nut-free – the waiter wasn’t 100% confident in this, but I didn’t see anything on the menu with nuts and was able to order anything! I think the confusion was that they occasionally have specials with macadamia nuts, but there was nothing listed on the menu currently containing nuts! They have a separate gluten-free menu that they will bring to the table if you ask which was super helpful because the main menu wasn’t super clear about gluten free options. I let our waiter know of my allergies and shared the gluten-free chips and guac and two of their gluten-free sushi rolls! They also brought over gluten-free soy sauce!”

They have an allergy menu online and are super consistent across all the Bay Area locations I have visited! Oasis Restaurant & Wine Lounge
Location: Pleasanton, California
“Amazing Mediterranean food in Downtown Pleasanton! This is a pretty fancy restaurant and great for birthday parties, date nights, etc! They also have a bar. There are GF symbols on the menu so it’s super easy to know what’s gluten-free. For nuts, there are no peanuts and only pine nuts in some dishes, almonds in one pasta, and pecans on one salad. Staff are very knowledgeable about which dishes contain nuts/allergens and come back to the table to let you know they checked with the kitchen! I love getting the butternut squash appetizer and the chicken kabob plate!”

The Meat Cellar
Location: Claremont, California
“One of my favorite restaurants at college for date nights or fancier dinners! They have great steaks, veggies, sides, and super fun drinks! They also have no peanuts in the whole restaurant! They have hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds that garnish some of the salads and cooked veggies, but according to wait staff all the nuts go on very last in a separate part of the kitchen, so there is very little chance of cross contamination in the cooking process. I had the steak tenderloin with mixed greens which was delicious and safe!”

Oceans & Earth Restaurant
Location: Yorba Linda, California
“This is a 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurant! When I inquired about my nut allergies, the chef told me they don’t use any peanuts or tree nuts in the kitchen! I was a little hesitant at first (I have never come across a restaurant free of gluten AND nuts), but our waitress was so kind and answered all my allergy questions! Everything on the menu is baked/made from scratch in house: the gluten-free brioche buns, pizza crusts, cookies, and desserts, so there is no chance of cross-contact with nuts! They even make their own ice cream! I was able to safely have any dessert on the menu, which has never happened before at a restaurant!”

Giuseppe’s Cucina Rustica
Location: San Luis Obispo, California
“This place is super cute for a semi-formal date night! There are no peanuts in the kitchen at all and they offer gluten-free pasta. Their food is really good and it’s a really cool piece of SLO history. However, they unfortunately don’t take reservations and the place is quite small so by 5 pm on weekends the wait can be up to 3 hours! We stood in line for their opening at 4 pm and were able to get a table by 4:45. While we waited we explored downtown and there’s a lot to keep you busy.”

Milo & Olive
Location: Santa Monica, California
“Pizza date night alert. We went to Milo and Olive for the first time to try their home made gf pizza! The gluten-free crust is mixed in a separate bowl so it does not get rolled out on their baking table with their other crust. That dough goes directly into a square pizza pan (only used for Gluten free) which then gets wrapped and stored in the fridge until they cook it the same day. They roast it in a separate oven from their main pizza oven but they do cook garlic knots in the oven. Both are on separate pans and they roast them separately from each other. Once it’s cooked, they use a separate workstation with separate toppings, spatulas and pizza cutters in order to serve the final pizza! All of their pizza combinations can be made gluten-free, they’re happy to make all modifications too. The dough is made with @eatoriginalsunshine flour that is certified gluten-free. The flour does contain wheat starch which is safe for those with celiac disease but not those with a wheat allergy. We had the pepperoni with hot honey and the mushroom with a garlic oil base. We finished off the meal with their gf chocolate cake. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time.”

“I had an absolutely AMAZING time at Nobu Miami! Our waiter Mauricio asked about allergies when we first sat down, and off the top of his head was able to recommend multiple meals that worked for me/could be adjusted for me. I went with what I knew was safe, and he had my allergens memorized and made sure that I stayed safe and comfortable the entire time! He even replaced the soy sauce on our table with tamari as soon as he knew I couldn’t have wheat. The quality of the food was superb and the atmosphere was incredible. They had multiple vegan wine options and the Prosecco I went with was incredible!”

Edison: Food+Drink Lab
Location: Tampa, Florida
“Beautiful restaurant with a very intimate and romantic (in a modern way) feel! The staff is extremely pleasant and knowledgeable about gluten free dining. Our server, Brady, was helpful and very attentive (and made a killer old fashioned according to my husband) and the manager even made rounds checking on all the tables to make sure we were enjoying our meals. They do have a separate gluten free menu, with some items that can also be made gluten free. I had the oysters, pork belly and scallops (all delicious but the smoked oysters oh my god, a must) and did not get sick. I did take a glutenese before and after the meal, because it is a shared kitchen and fryer. I also only ordered items listed on the GF menu as GF, I didn’t feel like I could trust that they would remember to make a certain menu item gluten free (they did offer)The food is so amazing I want to suggest this to all my gluten free friends, but I would encourage letting the staff know. For strict celiacs I don’t think I can fully recommend it, there is such a high risk for cross. If the restaurant was able to make some of the suggestions listed below I would definitely feel more comfortable recommending it for my celiac friends. One suggestion I would make for gluten friendly diners to feel more comfortable would be to mark allergy plates, even just with an allergy skewer or different colored plates. I would definitely go back, the food is like edible art, but hope to see some changes to make gluten free diners just a little bit more comfortable.”

Le Cellier Steakhouse
Location: Orlando, Florida
“Allergy friendly haven!!!! The servers here are extremely knowledgeable about allergies and gluten free dining (shout out to Kate for being so friendly and helpful, she truly made this a magical dining experience!). All orders are discussed with the chef to ensure no cross contamination occurs and are delivered separately with an allergy marker in the dish. I didn’t have to take any pretreatment medications and did not get sick at all from eating here. If every place could be as knowledgeable and inclusive as Le Cellier eating out with gluten intolerance wouldn’t be scary at all!
My husband and I went for lunch and the food was delicious. They even brought separate gluten free rolls with my own butter to ensure my safety! They have a separate allergy menu and can also make dishes allergy friendly at request. The restaurant itself is cozy and romantic (and wonderfully cool on a hot summer day!)

“This place was absolutely AMAZING!! When I first called to ask if they would accommodate my kids’ allergies, the hostess Morgan told me that they take allergies very seriously and would take the utmost care to ensure my kids a safe meal. She then took down all their allergies and told me that she was going to speak with her manager and the head chef. When we arrived at the restaurant, they were so sweet and our server went over all our allergies and meals that would be safe for my kids. It was an amazing dinner and my kids loved it!”

Lucco Cucina + Bar
Location: Florham Park, New Jersey
“I’m absolutely obsessed with this place. My husband and I go on date nights here a lot. I feel like the staff is really knowledgeable and the menu is really clear. One time I tried to order a pizza with a gluten-free crust and the waitress came back to me and let me know that that specific pizza could not be made gluten-free because the sauce contained wheat to thicken it up. This made me feel a lot better because I felt like they were able to put together that ordering it on a gluten-free pizza meant the rest of the order had to be gluten-free. I felt like they were super knowledgeable about being gluten-free in general and I really appreciate that.”

“We attended a special reservation-only dinner here (without our peanut-allergic son). We alerted them ahead of time about my celiac friend and my own egg sensitivity (not allergy) and was very impressed by how they handled it. Our waiter was informed before we arrived and the kitchen had taken special care of each course to accommodate us. An additional staff member passed by our table and double checked the food as it was being placed to be sure each person received the correct plate. Depending on your level of comfort, I think it would be worth calling ahead to see if they can accommodate your allergy. They seemed very concerned and knowledgeable.”

The woman on the phone clarified that it was only dairy and not egg as well (and actually seemed to know there was a difference). The menu doesn’t have too many nuts on it and while they’re aren’t extensive gluten-free options, they do have gluten free pasta and most of the entrees and salads can be made gluten free!
