Tree Nut and Dairy-Free Stockholm Top Picks

Hi! I’m Tally, and I recently studied abroad in Stockholm, Sweden! I was able to find many safe spots to safely eat at while managing tree nut and dairy allergies. One of my favorite places to eat was Indio Kitchen, where I safely had the omakase! If you visit, a must-do activity is walking around Gamla Stan and seeing the old town. “I got the sesame chicken which definitely had peanuts in it (to be honest I didn’t really taste the sesame), but it was very good and the waitress confirmed I could eat it! The wonton soup does contain dairy though which I was a little sad about.”

Bistro Bestick City

“Such good Swedish food (that aren’t meatballs) and they were so helpful in letting me know what items could be changed.”

Bröd & Salt, Stockholm Odenplan

“My new go to lunch place! It’s like a build your own sweet greens and then pay by weight. They have good separation between the different food (all the vegetables are in one and then a divider and then the cheeses). All bins have separate utensils and I am just cautious of what I get based on what’s around it!”

“Very good lunch prices! This massive pizza, a drink, and salad all included and mine was around 130SEK. Confirmed that there was no milk in the bread and just got a no cheese pizza! Didn’t look like there was vegan cheese on the menu.”

Five Guys Stockholm

“In the city center and got a small fry because I was hungry. Looked online for allergies, but this was the most expensive five guys i’ve been too. The small fry way $7 USD. My friend spent $30 USD on a burger, fries, and milkshake. While it was safe, I would recommend Max’s over this and it’s a Swedish chain!”

Florentine – Italian Restaurant

“So good with many dairy free options! I’ve been many times and every waiter knew how to deal with my allergy which I appreciated!! The lemon cello spritz was amazing as well!”

Griffins

“Good steak house that was able to accommodate with some interesting entrees. Food was good not great but definitely an option.”

Indio Kitchen

“If you go to Stockholm and like sushi you have to go here! We got the omakase and they were able to either modify or switch out every course so I could eat it! They made sure to separate my courses and truly had some of the best sushi i’ve ever tried! MUST GO!”

Kafé Plattan

“My first fika! This is a completely vegan cafe in the bottom of kulturhouse. I had the konnelbulle which is a very traditional Swedish pastry, I would almost describe it like a deconstructed cinnamon roll, and a chokladboll (chocolate ball). Both were so good and I was so happy to be able to have fika. The culture house is in center city near the malls and on the big plaza so I definitely recommend checking the building out!”

“I got the ramen with pork, it was a little salty but very good! Let them know about my allergies and they told me the dish didn’t have any milk in it and that I was all good!”

“Had a chokladball here, there were very strong flavors vanilla and coffee, but all their chokladball were vegan I believe!”

Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan

“Went here with my visiting host family as it’s one of their favorite places to eat in Stockholm! I got a chicken and rice dish along with a slice of their vegan chocolate cake. The menu was really well labeled.”

Max Burgers

“Came here for a lunch and was surprised. The combo meal for a burger, fries, and drink was $7. The burger is small, but was very good. They have an allergy menu online so it made ordering very easy for me.”

Meatballs for the People

“Went here with my parents and it was a great place to try traditional meatballs with multiple types of meat! They had vegan potatoes that looked so real we had to ask again!”

MXCO

“Got the chickens tacos with guac and a marg. It was really good and had spicy, which I feel like is not to be found in Stockholm! They were very good about confirming when everything came out that it was safe for me!”

Oktav

“I haven’t had any of the meals here, but they have two vegan dessert pastries! The chokladball and a vegan brownie. Neither of them are my favorite but it is so nice to be able and grab a snack between classes!”

The Border Burgers vs Burritos Södermalm

“My first night in Stockholm! I got the carne asada tacos and they were delicious! They didn’t have an english menu but Google Translate and asking the person taking my order worked! The food was really good too!”
