No Catch
Location: Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom
“I tried fish and chips with tartar sauce from this vegan and nut-free restaurant in Brighton! It was delicious. There are lots of signs about allergies (they note that some of their ingredients are processed in facilities with dairy, egg, nuts, etc.) but I felt really safe eating there and was so excited to try.”

Queen Of The Loch by Marston’s Inns
Location: Balloch, United Kingdom
“After doing some research and seeing that their online menu was very interactive and allowed you to filter by allergens, we chose to dine here after a boat tour on Loch Lommand. The sever who sat us asked about allergies on the way to the table and instructed us to use their website to identify what would be safe for the kids (he even used his own phone to walk us through how to access the tool). It took a little while to navigate the menu and to figure out that we needed to order at the bar, but the kids enjoyed their kids’ apps, mains, and desserts. My husband said his burger hit the spot and I enjoyed my lunch-sized portion of fish and chips. It doesn’t feel like an authentic Scottish pub/restaurant—more of an Applebee’s sort of vibe—but it did the trick.”

Manor Farm
Location: Kingston Upon Hull, United Kingdom
“Been and eaten here several times now. They use an app called Glass Onion, which shows a full allergen breakdown of every meal. You do have to read a cross-contamination disclaimer before ordering, but nothing on the menu actually contains nuts so I am okay with that. I’ve had Hunters Chicken and Fish and Chips here before. Both lovely.”

Fishoria Fish and Chips
Location: London, United Kingdom
“Had lovely fish and chips here. I was a little nervous because the one I went to before this one said they fried in peanut oil, but the staff was understanding and assured me that there were no nuts on the premises. They also had a gluten-free option that they seemed to take seriously.”

Horse & Guardsman
Location: London, United Kingdom
“This restaurant was amazing! The menus have a QR code you can scan which gives the allergen information for each item for allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, wheat, etc. It also includes any ingredients that may contain any allergens (per the manufacturer) so it is very in depth and helpful! The staff is wonderful, the waiter and manager were able to answer all of my questions about oils and such (they use rapeseed), and point out all allergies to the kitchen. I ordered the fish and chips which came out with a little allergy flag! The food was amazing!”

Oliver’s Fish & Chips
Location: London, United Kingdom
“They said they don’t have any peanuts, tree nuts, or sesame here. We went and there was one item that has nuts—something about a Mars Bar for dessert.
But we ordered fish and chips and it was so good!”

Soho Hobson’s Fish & Chips
Location: London, United Kingdom
“Great fish and chips along with a Greek salad. Safe for peanut, tree nut and legume allergies. Kitchen uses soybean oil and rapeseed (canola) in the fryers. I’m not a gluten-free person but they note that gluten-free items are fried in a separate fryer.”

The Coach Makers Arms Pub Marylebone
Location: London, United Kingdom
“Peanut-free pub! We saw very limited walnuts (oddly there was walnut ketchup?), but would feel very comfortable having my nut allergy daughter with us (she was not with us but is coming to London shortly which is why I asked—well I always ask even when she is not with us, but they also asked if anyone had allergies). My daughter got the fish and chips which was huge—they fry in grape seed oil. Best fries! Our hotel told us this is the best pub to eat at in the city—it was very good, but years ago we ate at Punch Bowl which I liked a touch better—the vibe then was better. Food was really good!”

The Ivy Cafe Marylebone
Location: London, United Kingdom
“I got the fish and chips which were peanut-free. There were peanuts on the menu, but the waitstaff made sure to check that everything was ok, and even asked if anyone had allergies at our table before asking our order. Lovely restaurant!”

The Mayfair Chippy Knightsbridge
Location: London, United Kingdom
“Could be one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Both from the food perspective and the knowledge of the entire restaurant. They asked us when we checked in if we had any food allergies—that was a first! We were not with my allergy daughter, but this would be my first recommendation for her when she comes in a few weeks. They also asked us at the table about allergies and my daughter had the cod fish and chips and I had vegan fish and chips which is tofu wrapped in nori and then battered—I saw they had gluten-free, so I had vegan and gluten-free, they asked if a preference or allergy which I appreciated and I learned that they have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free. There are NONE of my daughter’s allergies—no peanut, cashew, or pistachios! They do have walnut on 1 salad and hazelnut on 2 desserts. My daughter’s fave meal is fish and chips, but she hates when it was greasy and this was perfection. At the end of the bill they give you a little bag with traditional UK candy—they are like starburst in a fruit and a black licorice flavor—there are no ingredients on it and I did google after—super fun if you have no allergy concerns but if you have a young child with you that likes candy, just wanted to flag! We went to the Knightsbridge location, right by Harrods. We tried to get into the Mayfair location but it was booked for days. Lastly, I asked every taxi driver who had the best fish and chips and EVERY driver said Mayfair Chippy!”

“Dedicated gluten-free fish and chips! If you are looking for a uber safe place to enjoy an iconic British meal of fish and chips then this place is for you. One note is they batter the fish with skin left on the fillet. I enjoyed it, but some may want to peel it off. Highly recommend!”

Rick Stein, Sandbanks Restaurant and Bar
Location: Poole, United Kingdom
“Rick Stein Sandbanks was fabulous. I called ahead and described our needs and they told me they have a kitchen meeting each day to discuss how to modify the menu to accommodate allergies on their booked patrons. We had plenty of options and felt safe. They have a dedicated prep area, utensils and fryer and we had a wonderful meal. Staff checked with us at every step and my daughter even had a dessert which almost never happens! We ate, steak, gluten-free fish and chips and ice cream. Thank you to RS for a fantastic meal!”

Tailend Restaurant
Location: St Andrews, United Kingdom
“I actually cannot say enough great things about Tailend and how yummy the food is/how great they are with allergies! I always wanted to find a fish and chips spot when I came to the UK, and this has been my place since moving here basically. They have a separate fryer for chips, can cook things in separate pans to avoid cross contact, and the staff are genuinely the kindest people and so understanding about accommodating allergies and answering ingredient questions. I order take out or sit in and it’s been one of my go-to spots since being abroad so I cannot recommend more. A must-visit if you’re in St Andrews!”
