Villanova University
“As a student at Villanova without access to my own kitchen, navigating food options with celiac disease can be quite challenging. While the dining halls do make an effort to support students with dietary restrictions, there’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to providing safe, inclusive meals for those with gluten allergies. The allergen refrigerator has been incredibly helpful, and I truly appreciate its presence, but I’d love to see more hot meal options that are clearly labeled and safe for gluten-free students.
When it comes to on-campus dining, I feel the most confident eating at the Connelly Center and Donahue Court. The Conn offers consistent daily options, which gives me peace of mind knowing I’ll have something safe to eat. Donahue Court—affectionately known as Spit—offers the most flexibility with its rotating stations, including burrito bowls, sandwiches, and grill items. I’ve found it to be the most accommodating spot on campus.
Off campus, there are several amazing gluten-free-friendly restaurants in the area. Some of my go-to favorites include Lovebird, Goodness Bowls, Rosa Mexicano, Not Your Average Joe’s, and DePaul’s Table. Lovebird especially stands out, as it’s a dedicated gluten-free restaurant with a wide variety of dishes that are hard to come by for those with celiac. All of these places offer extensive gluten-free menus and take care to prepare meals in safe, allergy-conscious environments.”

Goodness Bowls
“Goodness Bowls is another awesome option for students at Villanova with dietary restrictions that is just a 5 minute walk from campus! They offer acai bowls (with gluten-free granola), gluten-free hot bowls, and gluten-free avocado toast/sandwiches. I’ve always felt safe eating there and it is clear that the safety of those with dietary restrictions is a top priority!”

DePaul’s Table Steakhouse
“DePaul’s Table is a fantastic choice if you’re in the mood for a more upscale dining experience. On their menu, they indicate which of their dishes are gluten free. Some dishes include various types of seafood and steaks, gluten free tortellini, and even some gluten free desserts. Although on the pricier side, you are getting a very safe and upscale dining experience!”

Rosa Mexicano
“Rosa Mexicano is an AWESOME option for celiacs if you’re looking for a Mexican meal. One of the most impressive aspects of Rosa Mexicano is their flexibility—nearly all of their menu items can be modified to be gluten-free! They offer both gluten-free soft corn tortillas and crispy hard shell options, giving you the freedom to customize your meal to your taste and dietary needs. Their staff is also knowledgeable and attentive when it comes to handling food allergies and cross-contamination, providing peace of mind with every bite.”

Lovebird
“Lovebird is a dedicated gluten-free restaurant that offers an inclusive dining experience for individuals with Celiac disease or gluten sensitivities. Unlike many traditional restaurants that may offer only a few gluten-free options, Lovebird stands out by crafting an entire menu that is 100% gluten-free! What makes Lovebird truly special is its ability to recreate beloved comfort foods that are typically off-limits for those avoiding gluten. From crispy fried chicken sandwiches to mac and cheese and onion rings, their offerings provide a rare sense of indulgence and normalcy for people who often struggle to find safe meals!”

Not Your Average Joe’s – Ardmore
“From the moment you sit down, you can tell that NYAJ’s takes dietary restrictions seriously. They offer a dedicated gluten free menu with a large variety of appetizers, entrées, and even desserts. From gluten-free burgers, to pasta dishes and chicken parm, they offer a wide variety of options and it is truly such a treat eating there as someone with celiac!”
