Tree Nut-Free Greece Top Picks

Hi! I’m Niko and I studied abroad in Greece! I found many safe spots to eat while managing my cashew, pine nut and pistachio allergies and shared them on the Spokin app—they are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Grill & Pita, where I had one of the best chicken gyros! A fun thing to do if you are in Greece is head into a neighborhood outside of the main downtown area of Athens, such as Ampelokipoi or Chalandri and window shop. Also, the beaches in Glyfada are beautiful! Follow me on Spokin @nikosarles to see all of my allergy-friendly reviews!

Koi Sushi Bar Pagrati

Koi Sushi Bar Pagrati

Location: Athens, Greece

“This place has many locations around Athens, including one in Syntagma Square where you get that sushi conveyor belt. However, the Pangrati location is my go-to. The best fish I have been able to find in Athens during my two months here so far. It is also so cheap! About €6 for a specialty roll!”

Rizzari

Location: Athens, Greece

“One of my favorite places to just chill, drink a coffee, and work on my laptop. I’ve never had their food before, but if you want a chill cafe to relax at. This is the place for you. Decent prices as well! I come here probably 5 times a week for either a cocktail or coffee while I work.”

CYA

CYA

Location: Athens, Greece

“I am currently studying abroad at this university/program. CYA provides lunch every day of the week to students who are in the program. The food is delicious and they always have a vegetarian option. They don’t have a specific vegan option available, but most of the time, something can be removed from the vegetarian option. They never have nuts on the menu which is amazing, and the staff in the kitchen is sensitive to any needs you may have! Attending this university has been a pleasure so far, and I have loved every moment of it. If you get the chance to study abroad here, do it! They have many trips to other parts of Greece that are built into the curriculum, so students get exposed to the culture, foods, and traditions of Greece!”

Deos

Deos

Location: Athens, Greece

“One of the most beautiful rooftops I’ve been to in Greece. Gorgeous views and even better service. The severs were very careful about listening to my food allergies.”

Brunchsin

Brunchsin

Location: Thessaloniki, Greece

“I got the Croque Madame and it was fantastic. Everything tasted so fresh, and they didn’t overcook the egg like most places tend to do! They use slices of French toast instead of normal bread. It adds so much flavor. Comes with a side of fruit and homemade chips. Coffee was also insanely good and strong. They do have pesto on the menu with pine nuts, so be aware of ingredients in some food items. Other than that, fantastic menu.”

Baba Ghanoush Vegetarian Restaurant

Baba Ghanoush Vegetarian Restaurant

Location: Athens, Greece

“Absolutely amazing falafel here. If you are either vegan or vegetarian, they will have something for you. I came here with my vegan friend, and she was able to eat mostly everything on the menu! There are no nuts from what I saw on the menu. But I would double-check with the server to make sure. They are very, very nice and they love to make conversation with you! I would definitely recommend for the food, vibes, and price! (I’ve been here 4 times in one week, that’s how good it is).”

Kalos tous mas

Location: Athens, Greece

“Very good chicken gyros. I paid €4 total for a chicken gyro (that was massive) and a coke. Very much worth it.”

Ursa Minor Athens

Location: Athens, Greece

“Delicious brunch food! One of the only places in Athens that I’ve been able to find pancakes with fruit and maple syrup. Most places have a bunch of sugary syrups on top, etc. Menu is all in Greek, but server speaks English, and I was able to confirm there were no nuts in this dish.”

KeBabis

Location: Skala, Greece

“Best gyros in Skala. Would definitely recommend! Super cheap and fast. Tons of locals here, so you know it’s good!”

City Circus Athens Hostel

City Circus Athens Hostel

Location: Athens, Greece

“My friend came to visit me here in Athens, and she stayed here for 6 nights. She said she would definitely recommend this place, and I agree. I was able to get a tour, and it was the cleanest, nicest, and most renovated hostel I have ever seen. Everyone was so respectful, and each room (with a max of 6) people has their own private bathroom and showers. In addition, the hostel also has its own restaurant, common space/kitchen, and rooftop bar. If you’re looking for a cheap but nice hostel. I would recommend.”

Valentino Crepes

Location: Thessaloniki, Greece

“This place is on the main strip of downtown Thessaloniki. There are tons of shops and restaurants around the area, but a little touristy. The crepes were €4 and absolutely delicious. You can add any toppings you would like, and there are no nuts used anywhere. I’ve attached a photo of my friends and I eating inside the place!”

Salento Wood Fired Street Food

Salento Wood Fired Street Food

Location: Thessaloniki, Greece

“This place was recommended to me by some friends I was traveling with. The food is phenomenal, and it is always packed. So I would go on a quieter time of the week. The Puccia’s are amazing, and they have one vegan option and then one vegetarian option. There were no nuts on the menu at the time I went to the restaurant, so I was confident in everything I was ordering!”

Grill & Pita

Grill & Pita

Location: Athens, Greece

“The best gyro I have had in Greece! Everything is made fresh daily and just once! So you gotta go before they run out of your preferred protein! The staff is very knowledgeable and there are no nuts!”

Mr. Puffs

Mr. Puffs

Location: aAt, Greece

“Amazing loukoumades. You can get pretty much any topping that you’d like. However, make sure to tell them about your allergy because they do have nuts! They were able to make mine on a dedicated prep area!”

School Pizza Bar

School Pizza Bar

Location: Egaleo, Greece

“The food here was absolutely delicious. However, be aware that their pesto, which is in the pesto pizza, has pine nuts. I had no idea I had an allergy/aversion to pine nuts; however, I found out when I ate the chicken pesto pizza! Thankfully, there was a pharmacy nearby I was able to get the medication and help I needed. However, if you have a nut allergy, I would take the precaution of asking the server. Other than that, the food was delicious!”

Harry’s Kitchen

Location: Athina, Greece

“The BEST chicken pie I’ve ever had. It’s called a kotopita, and basically, instead of a spinach pie, it’s chicken. It’s all handmade every morning, and when I went, they were out of what I wanted. They said come back in 30 min and I had fresh chicken pie! Would definitely recommend. Very close to the main shopping strip as well. I’ve been here 6 times now just for the chicken pie.”

Joshua Tree Cafe

Joshua Tree Cafe

Location: Athina, Greece

“This place looks like something that should be in Southern California. Amazing decor, and the brunch menu is amazing. Very “American”. They have tons of options for people who are vegan, including vegan pancakes and chicken. I would check this place out if you want a cute brunch spot.”

IT restaurant Kolonaki

Location: Athina, Greece

“I stopped by here as I was walking around the area, amazing food, I got the avocado toast with a fried egg on top. I also got it paired with a Bloody Mary. I would say it is a little on the pricier side for Greece (€10 for a Bloody Mary and about €11.50 for the avocado toast), but no major allergens! Wait staff are very knowledgeable about the menu. They also have a huge vegan section for brunch.”

Mille Arti

Location: Αμπελόκηποι, Greece

“I came here for breakfast this morning and I had the omelette with tomatoes, cheese, and ham. It was delicious. The menu is extremely helpful, and all of the ingredients are clearly listed under each item. I’d definitely recommend for a nice, peaceful breakfast! It’s in a quiet neighborhood of Athens with lots of greenery and plants!”

Attic Urban Rooftop

Attic Urban Rooftop

Location: Athens, Greece

“If you want to go to dinner or drinks at a place that is on the fancier side, this place is for you! You get the best view of downtown Athens and the Parthenon! Great place for photos, too. They do have nuts on the menu, so be sure to double-check with your server before ordering! The staff speaks great English, this place is definitely catered more towards tourists, but the food and drinks are to die for.”

Tre Sorelle Pizza

Tre Sorelle Pizza

Location: Athens, Greece

“The BEST pizza in town. They have so many options for allergies and dietary restrictions! The pizza is made fresh and is always consistent. They do have nuts on the menu, however, you can ask for them to be removed and for your food to be made in a dedicated prep area. If you’re in Athens, check this place out. The decor is also amazing. And the cocktails are like none other. 10/10.”
