Mo’s Nut-Free New York City Favorites

Hi! I’m Mo, and I’m so excited to share my favorite New York City spots that have been safe for my allergies to tree nuts, peanuts, and pink peppercorn! For classic NYC food, I love Tibbett Diner to get the best diner food. One of my must-go-to restaurants is Jacob’s Pickles and I recommend ordering a Southern BLT and a rosemary vodka lemonade. For sightseeing and activities, my favorites include: visiting Chelsea Market, viewing art at MoMA, and relaxing in Sheep Meadow or walking around the reservoir in Central Park. “Enjoyed a delicious frozen margarita on this beautiful rooftop overlooking the city! Ingredients were clearly marked and the drink wasn’t mixed in a shaker, but served in a bag (with a fun rubber ducky!). Seating seemed to be first come, first served, so I recommend going at off hours.”

“Great diner serving delicious food. I went when they weren’t busy and staff were helpful answering my questions. Highly recommend the biscuit with gravy!”

“My go-to diner. They offer desserts which contain my allergens in a separate case, and also offer peanut butter as a bagel topping. My go to order is bacon and hash browns because from what they shared none of my allergens go on the grill. Always super friendly when I mention my allergies. Can be hard to find parking during peak hours as it is a very popular spot. “

“Enjoyed lunch and apps a few times after spending time in Central Park. Staff are always helpful at identifying dishes I can enjoy. Beer is served super cold and is refreshing. Close to the 72nd street subway stop too, which is nice.”

“The manager was kind and helpful when I called ahead to inquire about whether I’d be able to eat there. Our server was kind, and the manager delivered my meal and assured me it was safe. Food was good and filling! This spot is right across the street from Lincoln Center by it may get busy before or after events. “

“Love MP! Staff immediately asked about allergies upon coming to our table and made me feel very comfortable, as always. Similar to their sister restaurant, Jacob’s Pickles, dishes are indulgent and sizes are plentiful. I’ve been here many times over the years and always have a great time! It can get busy, so going early or making a reservation are highly recommended.”

“Fun cocktail bar which offers food and lots of fun events snd drink making classes. Went to a brunch here with friends and enjoyed delicious bacon and hash-browns, along with a mimosa. Our food took a while so they gave us fun bubbling shots (pictured). Staff were super helpful about answering questions and confirming ingredients. Unsure if the cocktail classes would be safe, but will update once I get that info.”

“Teeny tiny little joint serving chicken and biscuits along with other tasty sides. The only item containing nuts is a salad and those go on top; they said they’d be happy to make it without as they go on top. It gets busy at lunchtime but service is still fast. Very friendly, helpful, and communicative staff. I recommend the chicken biscuit with ranch and the pimento cheese and crackers side. “

“Fun Irish pub which has a limited menu; staff said they had no nuts when I went both times. Staff were friendly and helpful about food allergies and verified it would be safe with kitchen staff. I recommend going on a Thursday as they have a group of folks who get together and play beautiful Irish music.”

“Super fun spot in K Town with ping pong, games, and food and drinks. We started our date night here playing ping pong and I enjoyed a hard cider. I hope to go back future and try out their food and a cocktail or two. They had a nice note about allergies at the bottom of their menu about allergies, so it looks promising. Will update once I go back! I recommend going earlier in the day so it isn’t so hectic and you can communicate your allergy needs- once it hit 6:30 pm it started to get busier and louder. “

“This is a new spot in the area and has received rave reviews so I decided to try it out; I agree the food is delicious- I got my go to combo of bacon, breakfast potatoes, and fruit- and staff were quite helpful. The nuts I saw on the menu were all toppings on salads and yogurt, and there didn’t seem to be many, which made me feel comfortable. Will definitely be back again! “

Finnegan's Wake

“Irish pub serving delicious and fresh food. It gets busy so I recommend going at off hours. They have a little peanut vending machine/dispenser (similar to a gum ball machine) near the bar, but I didn’t see anyone using it; the venue was quite clean and I didn’t see any peanuts lingering anywhere, but still worth noting. “

Jacob's Pickles

“Super friendly and helpful staff! They only have almonds here and they’re kept separate and are only on top of dishes from what I understand. Portions are plentiful. My favorites are the sandwiches and deviled eggs.”

Berimbau Brazilian Kitchen - West Village

Berimbau Brazilian Kitchen – West Village

“Delicious Brazilian food! When I emailed ahead of time I was informed the West Village location has tree nuts and the Midtown location has PN and TN; we went to the West Village location and when I informed the server he shared that nuts are added on top of dishes only as a topping which put my mind at ease. Start with the pao de queijo, then split the skirt steak and Milanese- all were so delicious and had super fresh ingredients. They have a capirinha bar as well, so I got to try one of those for the first time. The spot is small so I recommend going early or making a reservation! “

“This spot is attached to MoMA and is a great spot for a bite and drink before or after visiting the museum. I made a reservation for my birthday ahead of time and was able to note my allergens ahead of time, and staff acknowledged them when we arrived and were ordering. We enjoyed delicious fried chicken and fries, and I was treated to safe birthday chocolates before leaving. Staff really went above and beyond, and food was amazing!”

The Heights Bar & Grill

“My go to spot in Morningside Heights. Staff are always super helpful and they have limited nuts on the menu. I recommend the wings, wraps, and frozen margs! Rooftop is open during the summer and is a nice spot to sit with friends.”

“Wild Japanese game show where they serve delicious food and drinks! Couldn’t see the menu online but our server alerted me that the food was free from my allergens. It was all delicious!! Pay attention to the alerts on the website regarding show themes and language; this is a spot for adults looking for a date night, night out with friends, bachelorette party, etc.”

Baked Cravings - East Harlem
