Celiac-Safe Madrid Top Picks

Hi! I’m Maddy and I am studying abroad in Madrid, Spain! I was able to find many spots to safely eat with celiac. I am excited to share my favorite finds, which include Pastelería La Oriental Sin Gluten and Celicioso, two gluten-free bakeries! If you visit, make sure you walk around the gardens behind the Royal Palace! Follow me on Spokin @maddyydoug and on TikTok @theceliaccircle!

LaLina Bravas y Tapas Restaurante La Latina – gluten free

“LaLina is 100% gluten-free and easy to get to via metro! I had the gazpacho, patatas bravas, and one of the tostadas. The service was so good and I felt very safe eating there!”

Honest Greens Gran Vía 52

Honest Greens Gran Vía 52

“There are Honest Greens all over Madrid. My friends and I go all the time because almost everything is gluten-free, healthy, and so good. The prices aren’t bad either. I love the Latin Lover bowl. Most of the desserts in the sweet corner are gluten-free too.”

Tiki Taco

Tiki Taco

“My friends and I LOVE Tiki Taco! Each taco is €1 and all gluten-free! It’s not a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, but they do a good job of labeling allergens on the menu. However, I’ve only ever gotten their tacos because I know they’re safe. This is located right in the middle of Gran Via so it’s super nice before a night out or after class.”

Pastelería La Oriental Sin gluten

“This is a 100% gluten-free bakery and it’s safe to say that I was overwhelmed by having so many things to choose from! I got a whole loaf of bread for about €4 and it was the best bread I’ve ever had. I also got a glazed donut and a crème filled—WOW. If you’re gluten-free and haven’t had real donuts yet GO HERE!”

CELICIOSO Gluten Free Bakery

“Celicioso is right off of gran via, only a minute away from the metro stop. I stopped in and grabbed a lemon loaf and let me just say it was THE BEST I have ever had. It was only €4.50 for two big slices! They have coffee, cakes, pastries, and other baked goods that you can eat there or take to go. It’s so close to the center of the city so it’s super easy to get to as well.”

Mercadona

“There are Mercadonas all over Madrid. The prices are pretty cheap, and if something is gluten-free it will be labeled (other than produce of course). Mercadona is super fast and easy, and is my favorite grocery store!”
