CALIFORNIA

Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen

Location: Berkeley, California

“My FAVORITE restaurant in Berkeley. Hands down. I love this little Jewish deli with all of my heart and soul. The matzo ball soup is incredible, their corned beef is insanely good, and the latkes feel like home. It’s a great place that my vegetarian friends and I both enjoy, since we all have tons of options that fit our individual food restrictions! If I could eat here everyday, I would.”

Marvin’s Food & Fuel

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“My daughter had the pulled mushroom sandwich and fries (made in vegetable oil). She also had a latke and salmon dip appetizer and a ginger beer! The only item with nuts on the food menu was a wing appetizer with peanuts on top, but they get added after and don’t go in the fryer. They did have desserts with nuts, FYI. Fun spot in a great area, Fulton Market.”

Eleven City Diner

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“They were very used to the no nuts drill here! We had pancakes, waffles, eggs, bagels (which they made in house) and latkes – everything was great! We didn’t order milkshakes since we were there for breakfast but others did – and we noticed the ice cream brand they used was Homer’s if that is helpful.”

The Bagel

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“When half our family was struck with COVID, we canceled our family Hanukkah party and headed to The Bagel for safe Latkes and all the classic delicacies! My food allergic daughter LOVED the Latkes with apple sauce. It was a great consolation to be able to discover this safe gem for my daughter who deals with peanut/tree nut, sesame, seed, and legume allergies. We didn’t go for any bagels due to potential cross-contamination with sesame seeds, but otherwise had some excellent safe options.”

Manny’s Cafeteria & Delicatessen

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“What’s not to love about Manny’s? An old school deli and cafeteria, our kids love getting a tray and going through the line for matzoh ball soup, giant corned beef sandwiches, and a bowl of jello. And the latkes (more like giant potato pancakes) are so delicious. My son—allergic to tree nuts, peanut, and sesame—always feels safe and loves the experience. Definitely a go-to for our family.”

Modern Bread & Bagel

Location: New York, New York

“This is one of our favorite places to eat in NYC. 100% gluten-free and kosher. The best gluten-free bagels out there. A real NYC bagel! The menu items are all amazing. We love their sandwiches and, of course, their baked goods. They also have great holiday menus and always have their amazing latke tots! A must visit place if you are in NYC.”

Mendy’s NYC

Location: New York, New York

“We had the most delicious latkes at Mendy’s Kosher Deli! They were cooked perfectly and the apple sauce that it was served with was very good too. I asked questions and felt comfortable during my visit but I’d suggest asking questions too since they do have a large menu, just to be extra safe.”
