Lauren’s Favorite Celiac-Friendly San Diego Spots

Hi! I’m Lauren, the creator behind @eat.glutenfreewithme, and I’m so excited to show off my favorite restaurants in my hometown of San Diego, California! It took me a bit of time to find my favorite places to eat, but finally, I have narrowed down the best hidden gems. One of my favorite places is Campfire in Carlsbad, CA where everything is cooked on an open fire. They’re known for their roasted brocolli and trust me, you don’t want to miss out on it! For a sweet treat, check out Little Fox Cups for the best handmade gluten-free ice cream! Head to the Spokin app for the rest of my celiac-safe San Diego recommendations and follow me on the Spokin app @eatgfwithme and on Instagram @eat.glutenfreewithme!

Little Fox Cups + Cones

Location: Oceanside, California

“They were so kind when I asked if they could open a new tub. She didn’t question me at all and said yes right away. When I asked if she could use a fresh scoop, she already knew to do that as well. Educated & kind! 4 DF + Vegan options too!! I will be back”

Vigilucci's Cucina Italiana

Vigilucci’s Cucina Italiana

Location: Carlsbad, California

“This is not a 100% gluten-free establishment, but the menu has great labeling. They offer gluten-free pasta that’s boiled in separate water from gluten pasta water. I got the pesto pasta and it was a 12/10!”

Campfire

Campfire

Location: Carlsbad, California

“I have been to Campfire 4 times and have had nothing but a positive experience. All the waitstaff I have had know what celiac disease is. They have a separate gluten-free menu as well as a vegan menu. They’re highly aware of allergies, which makes me feel so safe. They also have gluten-free s’mores, which is not on the menu so be sure to ask!”

“This restaurant is 100% gluten-free. Everything is celiac-safe. They just released gluten-free protein bagels and they’re vegan as well. The salted caramel smoothie, sub coffee for cocoa is my favorite! They also have salads, juices, and snacks for grab-and-go! Love Choice!”

Nectarine Grove

“100% gluten-free restaurant! The best thing on the menu is the chicken and waffles. Their Del Mar location has insane chocolate croissants. Food is great and highly recommend if you’re coming to San Diego.”

Seabutter - Laguna Beach

“They’re not 100% gluten-free but their menu goes over what can be made cross-contamination safe. They have gluten-free tamari and they’re aware about cross-contamination. They do not have a dedicated gluten-free fryer.”

Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub

Location: Oceanside, California

“This restaurant is not 100% gluten-free but they’re great about handling celiac disease. When I told them I had a gluten allergy, they asked if I had celiac disease. They were aware of cross contamination. They brought me gluten-free tamari out separately. Had a great experience and I will be going back!”

Blue Bowl Superfoods

“Not much risk of cross-contamination, but they will get new ingredients from fresh containers. Don’t recommend the gluten-free granola because it’s not made with certified gluten-free oats.”

Malibu Farm San Diego

“Malibu Farm is always so great with allergies and cross-contamination. They have a dedicated gluten-free fryer. Always verify this from location to location. I have eaten here multiple times and never had anything, but a great experience. Highly recommend the nachos!”

El Tianguis Rolled Taquitos

Ramos House Cafe

Ramos House Cafe

“The waitress walked me through the entire menu and what could be made celiac safe with no cross-contamination. I felt completely safe eating here. I got the shrimp tacos and they heated the corn tortillas on a different surface from where the flour ones.”
